Research mentorship
One-to-one and cohort mentorship from experienced researchers, so that a study moves from question to published paper.

Research mentorship Africa is the core of what Sintieh Research Academy does. Since 2019 more than 1,000 health professionals have joined our mentorship programmes, and their studies have reached journals, hospital audit meetings and district health plans. A mentor is a published researcher who meets you regularly, reviews your work and holds you to a timetable.
Who research mentorship is for
- Clinicians, nurses and public health officers with a research question and no supervisor.
- Postgraduate students who need structured support alongside their university programme.
- NGO staff who must evaluate a programme and publish the result.
- Early-career researchers preparing a first systematic review or first-author paper.
What research mentorship includes
- A named mentor matched to your topic and method.
- Fortnightly check-ins by video call or in person in Buea.
- Written feedback on protocol, ethics application, analysis plan and manuscript.
- Access to ideation days, where fellows present and critique research topics.
- Guidance on journal selection and the submission process.

Duration and format
Mentorship runs for four to twelve months depending on the study. Most fellows commit five to eight hours a week. Sessions are online, with optional in-person days in Buea. Cohort mentorship, such as the systematic review mentorship programme, follows a fixed 16-week timetable. For individual pacing, see one-on-one research mentorship.
How to apply

Our standards
Every piece of work follows a written protocol and, where people are involved, ethical approval before data collection. We report to the partner as well as to a journal, and we follow ICMJE authorship rules. As a result, partners can rely on what Sintieh Research Academy delivers, and readers can check every claim against its source. In addition, all of our research mentorship work is delivered by staff and fellows who have themselves published.
