Our programmes span courses, field mentorship and collaborative projects with hospitals, NGOs and universities. Over the years we have grown from a training hub into a research and consulting engine that helps deliver measurable health outcomes.

Research consultancySintieh Research Academy was founded in 2019 by Dr Sintieh Ekongefeyin for research capacity building among healthcare professionals in Cameroon. Clinicians had questions from their wards and clinics, and no supervisor, no methods training and no route to a journal. The first courses were run for a handful of doctors and nurses in Buea.
By 2021 more than 500 trainees had passed through the programmes, several of them from neighbouring countries, and the Academy began to take on studies for hospitals and NGOs as well as teaching. By 2023 it had reached 1,000 trained researchers and run its first community health campaign at scale, the hypertension programme that screened more than 5,000 people.
In 2025 SRA was integrated into SHINE, Sintieh Health and Innovation Enterprise, as its dedicated research arm. As a result, research capacity building now reaches every SHINE programme. SHINE's programmes and divisions provide the field settings; SRA provides the methods, the training and the publications.

Founder, Sintieh Research Academy
Dr Sintieh Ekongefeyin founded Sintieh Research Academy in 2019 to close the research capacity gap among healthcare professionals in Cameroon. He is a medical doctor and researcher whose work covers cardiovascular health, digital health and research capacity in Africa, most recently through a scoping review published in BMJ Heart. He leads SRA's training and consulting work and represents the Academy within SHINE.
